Many fans portray Daisy as a butch lesbian, which has raised the issue that this plays into the harmful stereotype of violent butch lesbians that has been used against them as a way of justifying discrimination. Fans claim that Daisy is a problematic character because she is/was a cop and had done pretty messed up, violent actions in the name of police. The Daisy issue and police brutality is somewhat an easier issue to approach. So what I’m going to say here is mainly driven from that conversation. I apologized in case I had offended them, but they stopped answering me. When I first encountered this certain discourse I asked in the server and one of the members kindly explained the issue to me in dms, but didn’t answer my questions and comment on it. Second Problem: The Headcanons Issue (SPOILERS ALERT) Especially considering that you can never make everyone satisified. Calling this insincere according to some fans is an emotional statement that sets the readers mind in a certain direction, and seeing that in this otherwise technical document felt weird and out of place. Talking about politics is like walking in a minefield, especially for fans like me who are not western, since some of the rules that certain people are trying to globalize do not work the same way for us.Īlso about the Mike LeBeau problem, Rusty Quills suspended him for 2 weeks (iirc) and did some charity work for BLM institutes as a way of apology, while admitting that what happened was wrong and acknowledging the hurt they caused among many fans, as it can be read in their statement linked in the document. Almost every conversation can turn into an argument, and it would disrupt the main goal of the server: to create a space for the fans to talk about the media they are creating.
RUSTY QUILL MODS
If there’s a “no politics” rules in the server it’s mostly because of how hard it is to moderate, more than the mods being indifferent toward real life problems. While I agree with the notion that “not being political is political in nature and harmful”, you can’t simply control a server with this many people in it. I’d be happy to hear again from you guys if you can provide a compelling argument, I’m always open to know more about these stuff.įirst Problem: The “No Problematic Subjects” Issue What I’m going to try and raise in this reblog is not by any way condoning some inappropriate behaviors that has been seen in the server, but I have some issues with some parts of this document in particular and in general, the whole issue. This is a well-thought well-put document, it’s apparent that a huge amount of time and energy was spent on this, so I thank you for all of your efforts. Getting back to this document, I want to first send my regards to people writing this. Please do not tell a content creator that a certain chatacter is following bigoted stereotype if you are not part of that group. I have an issue with this problem, because you cannot force your idea of a minority group as an ally, because it’s not your place to do so. I’m noting these, because there are many white fans who demand changes in some chatacters that are our own comfort character and they are demanding the changes in our favor.

Everyone who knows me will know that I absolutely despise getting into fandom discourse for various reasons (one of them being a complete waste of time), and yet here we are, and I felt the need to speak up.Ī quick introduction of myself: I’m 23 years old, homoromantic ace, muslim and middle eastern.
